Business Model Canvas (BMC) in Edventures

The Business Model Canvas (BMC) is a tool for mapping your business idea. It breaks your model into key segments so you can think through each part clearly. Edventures lets you build and refine your BMC with AI support. This guide explains how.

What is the Business Model Canvas?

The BMC is a one-page framework with nine segments. Each segment represents a crucial part of your business:

  • Customer segments — Who are your customers?
  • Value propositions — What value do you offer? What problem do you solve?
  • Channels — How do you reach your customers?
  • Customer relationships — How do you interact with and retain customers?
  • Revenue streams — How do you make money?
  • Key resources — What assets do you need (people, technology, etc.)?
  • Key activities — What do you do to deliver value?
  • Key partnerships — Who do you work with?
  • Cost structure — What are your main costs?

We also include a business idea segment at the top to capture your overall concept. This is not part of the original BMC framework, but it’s a useful way for us and yourself to capture your overall concept.

How to fill in your BMC

There are two ways to fill in your BMC:

1. Use Anna to help you fill in your BMC

  1. Click on your project and open the any thread.
  2. Click the paperclip icon in the chat input field to the left.
  3. Select a file from your device. Choose a PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPTX, or image.
  4. In the chat field, you can add additional instructions — e.g. “Focus on the customer section” or “Extract from slides 3–5” if you like.
  5. Click Send (the paperplane icon). Anna will process your file.
  6. Review the results. Anna will suggest content for your BMC segments. You can accept, edit, or reject each suggestion.

Tip: If you have an existing document (pitch deck, business plan, etc.), you can upload it and let Anna extract BMC content for you. See Generate BMC from documents in Edventures for more details.

2. Do it manually

  1. Click on your project and open the BMC section.
  2. Click on a segment (tile) to edit it, or to add a new segment.
  3. Type or paste your content. You can write as much as you need within the character limit for that segment.
  4. Click Save.

Tip: Start with the segments you know best (e.g. customer segments, value proposition). Chat with Anna to get feedback and help with the rest. See Referencing your work in Anna conversations. Anna is also able to automatically fill in the segments for you based on the conversation you have with her in the chat.

Getting AI help with your BMC

Anna can help you think through each segment. For example:

  • “How do I define my customer segments?”
  • “What should go in my value proposition?”
  • “Can you help me refine my channels?”

Reference a segment in your Anna chat to get targeted feedback. See Referencing your work in Anna conversations.

Exporting your BMC as PDF

You can export your BMC as a PDF to share or print:

  1. Open the BMC section in your project overview.
  2. Look for Export to PDF button in the top right corner.
  3. Click it. Your BMC will be generated and opened in a new tab as a PDF.

The PDF includes all your segments and their content in a readable format.
